Is there a more satisfying side than French fries? Of course, there isn’t. The thing is, making them in a traditional way spends too much cooking oil. There’s more, let’s face it, home-made French fries never turn out like the ones from your favorite Burger chain.
That changes today because we’re air frying our potatoes straight out from the freezer. Really! And the results will swoon you off your feet.
If you still don’t have an air fryer, let me tell you that, although the appliance is quite versatile, you appreciate it the most when frying stuff like these. Fries, wings, chicken nuggets, fish sticks and whatnot. Why? Because they end up beautifully golden and crispy and show little to no oiliness.
For this quick and easy French fry recipe, you’ll need an air fryer, of course, but also a bag of frozen French fries, cooking oil in spray, salt and pepper.
The secret behind the crispiest air fried fries is cranking up your air fryer all the way up to 400°F. This is as hot as regular air fryers get, and you want that intense heat because we’re starting with frozen fries, and they must achieve perfection in about 24 minutes.
Please take your time and get to know your machine. Although all air fryers work similarly, they do have differences. What mine can cook in ten minutes might take only eight in yours, so know your machine.
Here’s one more tip. Some air fryers handle frozen food better than others. You might need to discard all that water from the melted ice halfway through the process, but that’s not at all necessary with all models. Read your instruction booklet if you still have it, or Google your air fryer model to learn more about it.
The last thing to consider is that we’re tossing the fries with salt and pepper at the end once they’re fully cooked. Here you can get creative, for example, tossing them with a pinch of paprika for color and spiciness, or with lemon-pepper seasoning for thrilling fries that fall out of the ordinary. Fries have never been so exciting!
Preheat your air fryer to 400°F.
Spray your frozen fries with cooking oil. Toss to coat thoroughly.
Air fry for 12 minutes, toss the fries and air fry for 12 more minutes.
Remove and place the fries in a large mixing bowl. Toss with salt and pepper to taste.
